Job Description

Purpose: The WWTO will perform a broad range of manual tasks to transfer and treat used oil, oily water and used antifreeze products. This position will share responsibility for the operation of processing equipment including material transfers and process unit operations, process monitoring and process adjustments, along with maintaining equipment and systems to operate efficiently. The WWTO will work within established standard operating procedures and within specific safety and environmental guidelines as established by the Facility Manager, Branch Manager and EH&S.

 Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for engaging in and promoting safe work behaviors in a manner that is consistent with all HCC safety guidelines.
  • Ensures that pumps, mixers, blowers, chlorinators, vacuum equipment and other waste water treatment equipment are functioning properly.
  • Unloading, loading and transferring of bulk materials to/from tankers, railcars and tanks in accordance with company rules and regulations.
  • Sample, gauge and offload incoming/outgoing product streams.
  • Analyze samples in accordance with the Waste Analysis Plan.
  • Open/lift valves, filters, strainers, etc.
  • Transfer material via pipeline or hose/pump.
  • Operate forklift, yard truck and other equipment to support facility activities.
  • Assists with process equipment repair and services – equipment to include rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, etc.), heat exchangers, control equipment (level, pressure, flow, etc.) electrical equipment, valves, tanks, etc.
  • Reviews the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner and to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitors and reports the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Identifies and carries out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
  • Verifies receiving and shipping paperwork and directs transfers to appropriate tanks.
  • Assist with utility (boilers/cooling towers/compressors) operations and inspections.
  • Prepare process equipment for safe maintenance activities including following all Lock-out/Tag-out procedures.
  • Accurately completes activity logs documenting task status and completion.
  • Communicates with other shift members, supervisors and other shifts to ensure accurate transfer of information and safe operation.
  • Adhere to all corporate policies and standards including but not limited to RCRA, environmental and regulatory, human resources, facility, equipment operations and maintenance.

Specific Skills:

  • Ability to read and understand established procedures, including the Waste Analysis Plan and RCRA requirements
  • Process Operations including operating rotating equipment, control equipment, boilers, cooling towers, exchangers and bulk liquid transfer
  • Water treatment and/or water chemistry background a plus
  • Powered Industrial Truck/Fork Truck experience a plus
  • Ability to read and write handwritten and typed correspondence
  • Strong Mathematical and Mechanically reasoning ability
  • The ability to work in team-based environment
  • Attention to detail
  • Good communication skills


Job Requirements

Work Experience:

  • 2+ years of related experience 

Education, Certificates, Licenses, Designations or Memberships:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Vocational training or apprenticeship preferred 

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Safety glasses, steel toe boots, hard hat 

Work Environment: While performing essential duties of this position an individual regularly works both outdoors in inclement weather and indoors, with moderate physical activity including, walking, lifting objects up to 50 pounds and climbing. Individual will be required to regularly talk, hear, see and often reach with hands, stand, walk, use a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment. Able to climb on top of tank trucks, storage tanks, using ladders, hand rails, etc. Involves twisting, turning, pushing and pulling.
