Job Description


Works closely with all Operations staff to develop a deep understanding of the function. Using this understanding, identifies and assists in implementing initiatives which result in cost savings and improved efficiency. Reviews Overall Operations Performance KPIs (including, logistics, distribution, disposal, purchasing, and other operating activities). Tracks and forecasts key metrics which affect operations and budget performance. Works closely with other financial analyst(s) to project future transportation, disposal, and operational costs. Leads periodic KPIs review meetings with vendors, operations staff and management. Supports Optimization Efforts across all operational areas.

Essential Duties:

General Duties

  • Coordinate monthly review meetings and provide recommendations to Operations Management for actions that can improve reliability, increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Regularly reports on actual performance versus established goals for cost savings/improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze Operations Performance and Review with Vendors and Management
  • Identifies and tracks key factors which influence logistic network performance such as demurrage/detention, volumes by shipping lane, changes in model mix, supplier capacities and frequency of supply chain disruptions (late ETAs, missed loads)
  • Interprets historical, current, and projected data to identify problems, causes, and areas for which procedural or system changes are indicated.
  • Assist in implementation of systems enhancements, and rollout new custom reports and scorecards. Train users at all levels of operations staff.


Develop and Support Operations Forecasts

    • Forecasts volumes and required capacities for LOBs.
    • Provides cost analysis, forecasts and ad hoc reports and analysis.
    • Develops and maintains forward looking logistics cost models for each line of business.
    • Develops both long term (strategic plan) and annual forecasts.

Execute Analytics, RFQs and Optimization Studies to Improve the Supply Chain

    • Develops operational models for scenario based review of the supply chain.
    • Develops and maintains tools to capture and report on short to mid-term operations performance and reviews projections with management.
    • Execute departmental analytical (TrackVia/CCMS) reports.
    • Develop ad-hoc reports as needed to support the Disposal Manager’s needs to more fully comprehend measurement results.
    • Analyzes logistics bid results including cost and service standard metrics, vendor performance capabilities and other strategic initiative inputs
    • Performs network optimization studies and consults with supply chain partners

Develop and Support Operations Functions

    • Builds SQL queries to extract data sets for analysis of operational and disposal data
    • Provides support for day-to-day needs of the Disposal Manager and VP of Operations
    • Lead ongoing analysis of P&L impact and return on capital of company projects and potential disposal outlets.


Stays abreast of industry developments

    • Participates in operations benchmarking projects including transportation, disposal, purchasing and process operations and network optimization studies
    • Participates as needed in industry committees/groups.
    • Supports continuous improvement process and seeks opportunities to enhance the HCC Operations activities

Job Requirements

Work Experience

  • 3-7 years of financial analysis in logistics, supply chain and/or operations environment


Education, Certificates, Licenses, or Designations

  • Bachelor’ Degree in Finance, Statistics or related field

Specific Skills

    • Advanced Microsoft Excel required
    • Experience in Budgeting and Forecasting
    • Experience in Identifying and Implementing Cost Savings Initiative preferred
    • Experience with Operations Supply-chain modeling preferred

Work Environment: While performing essential duties of this position an individual regularly works indoors, and may be required to sit for long periods. Individual will be required to regularly talk, hear, see and often reach with hands, stand, walk, use a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment.
